Quao Tour: A day at the "Largest Craft Fair"

So today my blog post will take you back to some good old travelling days...

Surajkund Mela where Suraj means "Sun", Kund means "Lake" and Mela means "Fair". You all have heard or visited Surajkund Mela at least once in your lifetime. But do you know who discovered Surajkund Mela and when?

The surrounding places were under the control of the Tomar clan and the chieftain, Raja Suraj Pal, of the sun worshippers had built the sun pool in the adjoining area in the 10th century. Historians also reveal that a holy temple was there in the hinterland. The territory of the complex was named as Surajkund after this sun pool. Visitors of Surajkund can still discover the vestiges of the amphitheatre sun pool.

The fair was started in 1987. The ambience was simple and the grounds were characteristically rural in appeal thus, the gate was planned as a plain mud structure.

The fair is held during the spring season, every year from 1–15 February with a different theme every year on Indian culture and crafts. The theme, specific to a state of India, is depicted at the entrance to the Mela grounds and provides an ambience of that particular state with characteristic colours, materials, architecture, furniture and decorations.

The fascinating celebration pulls gigantic numbers of visitors from different corners of India as well as abroad because of the amazing and striking crafted works and handlooms. The specialities of the celebration are its valid aromas and flavours of rich cuisines.

The sublime mela gives a significant stage to the skilful and dexterous artists who can undoubtedly grandstand their abilities with their superb and wonderful crafted works things. The average crafted works and handlooms look majestic in the rural backdrop. It is where specialists from everywhere the nation assemble at one reason and certainly, it brings the deep-rooted Indian societies into the spotlight from numerous years. The mela is composed by the Haryana Tourism Department to empower Indian artists.

Visiting Surajkund Mela left me mesmerizing. From the crafts to handlooms, art punt to food, everything was so vibrant and perplexing. The ambience of the fair was so energetic and the fair actually took me close to my culture. Not only people of India get to perform but also people from different countries display their antiques and also give splendid performances.
